You guys forget though that if the only problem with the moon landing was the Van Allen radiation belt all that stuff could have been put up there, soil samples taken, etc. with unmanned probes and robots. My Pop used to work on Haleakala on Maui with lasers and he would bounce them regularly off of mirrors that have been left up there, but he admitted they could have been placed by unmanned probes. But there are DEFINITELY mirrors up there because if you move the laser over slightly it will diffuse and not bounce back.

I will ask him. If I remember correctly the beam is about 15 ft wide when it returns because if the distance involved and I couldn't tell you how big the reflectors are. Not sure how hard they are to find and hit. Check out the video Jar posted, I am pretty sure they show the process pretty thoroughly and show how much light is returned when the beams are on and off the mirror.

It takes light 2.6 seconds to travel to the moon and back. Just wonder if you and your father noticed that while you two were experimenting with the laser.

Ha ha. I saw myself walking into that trap and went ahead and did it anyway. I meant I wasn't present when he ran any of those experiments, he has just told me about them when I talked about the moon landing conspiracy theories. 2.6 seconds for the beam to return sounds about right, though.
