Here is what the designer posted as a mock-up -- it's not the final design, just an idea and he asked for input to what direction he should take -

My opinion ?

I think it has too much of a traditional/historical look, I think the torn paper look is fine, but I think the background and the camel/arab picture of the right hand side banner make it look too old fashioned.


I'm looking to remove the background and Arab image, and go back to the drawing board - the navigation strip also I think, because of the font and style, is not what that good.

I know how I want it to be modern in my mind, not how to explain it !

Looks rough around the edges, then again it's a mock-up ..

The username/password can be implemented on top possibly, fonts need to be changed, and a better overall sophisticated look --

What's your opinion -- it's just a draft mock-up, there will be 2 versions - a light colored one and dark theme.

The wood paneling background doesn't do it for me either. I saw a skin a couple of months ago that had potential but I can't find it now. I'll keep looking.

I love these backgrounds a lot - would it be cool if there were a little translucency so you could just see a bit of the background on the forums ?

I think having these as backgrounds, the torn paper look wouldn't work and something else would be needed -
