Default Proper technique for spotting on deadlifts?

Me and a friend--less experienced in powerlifting than me--are going to start a routine of doing heavy deadlifts. We want to do this because no single exercise provides the type of core strength and MMA-muscle-chain power that deadlifts do.

My concern is making sure that, given the heavy weights we will eventually work up to, that we do not injure ourselves in the training process. What is the correct way to provide a spot to someone who is deadlifting? Should the spotter stand in front or behind the person and where should they be grabbing the bar? Or do I need two spotters--one on either end of the weight?

People don't use spotters for deadlifting, you troll.

It's easy to drop the barbell without injury.

You wear a belt to avoid injury, and warm up before doing the heavy sets.

I know a lot of people think it's OK not to use spotter--that they're too tough; too cool. But when you're using heavy weights you should always have a spotter. I learned that my very first day during gym orientation.

There's a sign in the gym that says "Do not drop weights" and I plan on following this rule.

One spotter cups your balls to prevent a hernia, another spotter applies pressure to your sphincter to prevent a prolapsed rectum. That's all you need.

stand in front of the lifter, facing him/her, with a hammer in your hand. if the lifter gets in trouble and they don't have the sense to drop the bar, hit their hands with the hammer.

This is the correct (and hilarious) answer.
