Their new CD is decent, but I agree they've gone a bit downhill.

he's an ego maniac, the fact that he takes on complete creative control shows on the newest albums, not to mention his terrible solo crap

Fuck that relentess. alternative was created in the 90's. I dont remeber all the 80's rock and 70's rock being called alternative. It was called classic rock and metal.

The definition of alternative is a more soft rock sound. Nirvana were the pioneers and really the first big name of this kind.

as a surviving member of the grunge era, allow me to clarify things. Grunge was called alternative at one time because it was the only "alternative" to the big hairbands. Calling them rock would lump them into the category with poison and motley crue who were still thriving in 91-92. Then once softer bands came out like oasis, they became alternative and seattle bands became grunge. Lots of people still call them alternative, because either way, they weren't hairbands. Reminds me of the whole ufc/mma/cage-fighting terminlology.

true, just look at this sorry excuse of current musical icons "discussion", the best they can do is go back to the classics, and they think that alternative music was actually created in the 90s and that it started with nirvana

So in 5 years we can add Britney Spears to that list? Nothing's gonna stop her from going platinum a few more times.
