God is everything, all of nature and the universe, and it's also what allows humans to be enlightened and conscious of themselves. But nobody can agree on a definition, so it's kind of pointless.

I will say though, the Old Testament god with all these anthropomorphic human qualities like hate so on, yet is still somehow omnipotent and perfect, is total bullshit and pisses me off.

At least the Germanic religions and the Greeks and Romans put their gods on level with humans and were honest about it, instead of claiming there's one god like the Christians yet having it split into three pieces along with a pantheon of demigod angels and so on.

I honestly don’t fear death at all. Dying, yes (not if it’s peaceful, but I fear a painful or violent or prolonged PROCESS of dying); but being dead holds no fear in me. I imagine it as an endless, dreamless sleep -- I won’t know a thing about it, because I won’t exist any more.

Those who believe in an afterlife believe in a soul that survives the demise of our physical bodies; a soul that contains the essence of us; that can feel emotions; that can feel physical pain; that is essentially our personality plus senses, minus our body.

But we can be quite certain this isn’t true. If our personality resides in our souls, how come damage to our physical brains often alters our personality beyond recognition? If our emotions reside in our soul, how come they can be stimulated and manipulated by electronic impulses to specific parts of our physical brains?

There really will be no way we could possibly have any awareness of anything after death. That may be a disconcerting thought; it may incredibly hard to conceptualize; and we may feel sad at the thought of no longer being with our friends and families; but there really isn’t anything to fear -- you are dead and none the wiser.

I don't discredit those that have faith in a higher being, I just despise those pushing their views on others. Well, that and religion has started every war since the beginning of time.

You feel this way AT THE PRESENT TIME, but the only way anyone will know is when the moment of death approaches, when and how.

Time will pass, people will change, their perceptions will change.

Even if at the present time you feel this way, who is to say it will always be that way.
