Default K-1 Exposed

I have been reading alot about people here, and various other news sites claiming that K-1 has been exposed as being subpar when compared with MMA.

Reasoning behind it is this past Dynamite! show on New Years. Did I think Overeem had a chance against Hari? I gave him about 25% at best, especially under K-1 rules. He ran a clinic on Hari. Does that mean Hari sucks and by association that K-1 sucks too?

Not at all, it was one night and one fight.

Same goes for Musashi vs. Mousasi -- The two time Japanese K-1 Champ and K-1 World GP finalist was destroyed in fantastic fashion by Mousasi. Just another fight -- comparing K-1 and MMA is apples and oranges. Saying one is better than the other is retarded.

It's the same deal with Western boxing Vs MMA.

You will always have the shitheads.

Melvin is a savage but I guess I consider both of them first and foremost K-1 guys.

Hunt had a good 100lbs on him but maybe that doesn't help much against speed and psychosis. I just figured Hunt's iron jaw might be able to weather the storm, guess not.

Ive always known MMA's best strikers can hang with K-1's best. I always found it absolutely retarded how people used K-1 as the striking standard. K-1 is only kickboxing. In MMA, you got pro boxers, muay thai specialist, karate specialists, and kick boxers. Some all mixed together.

Overeem doesn't represent the typical MMA striker, Overeem trains out of Golden Glory, a kickboxing camp, and cross-trained grappling and BJJ.

Plus, he's roided to the gills and thew power and strength of his punches give him advantages ,,

Well, lets not get confused here smoker -- K-1 is made up of Kyokushin and Seidokan Karate (ie, Semmi Schilt or Andy Hug), Muay Thai (ie, Ernesto Hoost or Buakaw), Kickboxing (ie, Musashi) and straight up Boxing (anyone remember Ray Mercer or Shannon Briggs trying out the K-1?)

K-1 is also varied in stand up -- just like MMA is. Hari was lit up by a monster -- Hari happens to have a glass chin, he was done. The guy is still sick though, anyone that watches K-1 knows that Badr is a bad motherfucker regardless of his antics and lack of chin.

And really, K-1 still is the striking standard in my book.

Lets not try and get into semantics nor talk about suspect roid abuse -- it wasn't his strength that won this fight -- it was superior positioning and striking.

Overeem is known as an MMA guy, lets not say "not your typical MMA guy" -- no one is these days.

That said, I do remember Glaube Feitosa KTFO Overeem in K-1 back in 2004...

I still havent seen anyone as versatile as Anderson in K-1. Anderson has KO'd someone standing with each limb(Punch, Knee, Kick, Elbow). Show me someone in K-1 who can do that

overeem didn't win as much as badr lost. and i'm sorry but it has to be pointed out that musashi is EASILY the worst k-1 regular of the last 6-7 years. i was impressed that mousasi was able to obliterate him THAT easy because i considered mousasi a grappler before a striker but let's not get carried away here. MMA had a good night. musashi is horrible by any standards.

Musashi sucks for sure but a shitty K-1 guy with solid kicks got worked by a guy known for submission game, that said Mousasi has been boxing since he was 15.

I didn't see Musashi winning, I just didn't see him losing on his feet.

It was a kickboxing bout how else was he supposed to lose?

Naww man, he wasn't called Mr. Perfect for no reason -- the guy was a surgeon. Some of his combinations were inhuman. Anderson Silva is a great fighter but comparing him to Hoost?
