Default Cameldog Exclusive: Interview With Pro MMA Fighter/Muay Thai Fighter Felice Herrig

Most people probably know you from the Reality Show Fight Girls. How would you describe the experience ? (congrats on winning the fight in thailand too)

ah yes, Fight Girls, my claim to fame. Fight Girls was an amazing experiance. It was one of those once in a life time opportunities where in the moment you think, "Is this really happening to me?"
I loved doing the show. I had so much fun, I got to train with and meet other amazing girl fighters. Ofcourse there was alot of stress involved but I wouldnt change anything. We filmed in Vegas and then in Thailand. Thailand was beautiful and I was very excited to be there, and of course to win.

You've recently made the transition from Muay Thai To MMA, how are you dealing with the transition ? and is it frustrating to have lost both fights from Split decision ?

The transition is taking a little time to get use to. I became a fighter because I like to engage and fight. My first 2 mma fights were mostly frustrating because my opponants didnt come to fight, they came to stall and to keep me from doing what I do best, which is striking. Good stratedgy on their part I suppose. But now I know what I need to work on. Not bad for my first 2 mma fights. I left without a scratch on me and fought 2 girls with way more mma experiance then me and lost both to very close, controversial split decisions. All it does for me is make me work harder. And thats what i've been doing.

Will you still be focusing on MMA ?

I focus on whatever opportunity is in my way at the moment..I just recently fought a 5 round muay thai fight in New York against Emily Bearden. Now ahead of me I have an mma reality tv show called "Ultimate Womans Combat" So at the moment I am focusing on mma.

Do you think the UFC will ever have a female division ?

Absolutely I do. Its just a matter of time. MMa has grown so much these past 10 years, mostly for men, and now that people are starting to really get into mma I just think its a matter of time befor us women are respected the same as the men. The only way for us to really get the recognition we deserve is to prove that we belong. In order to prove we belong we need to dedicate ourselves to training and getting better and make a statement when we fight.

What are your goals for the rest of the year ?

I am always setting goals for myself. Its hard to set goals in a time line. I do have this reality show to focus on. I would really love to win it. That would be a great accomplishment. But I also would just like to make a statement, show the world that woman can fight. Being able to showcase my talent infront of a large audiance is going to be great. I just want to represant the sport well and take what I can from it. I'm always looking to fight as much as possible and take the opportunities that come my way. I guess I'll just see where the road takes me. Before this year started I said, " this is going to be a great year for me!"
It started out a little rocky but I believe this is going to be a life changing year for me.

Are you going to be fighting again soon ?

" Ultimate Womans Combat" starts in a few weeks. The shows format is alot like " The Ultimate Fighter. I will be fighting on the show a few times.
