Thiago Alves asks for catchweight title shot!
err uh I mean welterweight title shot. You could see it on Dana's face when he asked that it will never happen unless he makes weight in at least his next two fights. Especially after lutter missing weight.
I was almost offended by him asking for a shot after missing weight by such a big margin. He's a very good fighter but seriously how are you going to call Dana out like that. He needs to move up weight or get off the Gina diet.

lol, Thiago is already dreaming of beating GSP and getting bigger paychecks !
I didn't see the post-fight presser so will head over to UFC, I hope they have it in the videos section as usual.
Didn;t see that fight though, who dominated Hughes better, Thiagi or GSP ?

gsp because Hughes actually took down thiago. How does he expect to get through GSP if he can't even beat fitch or Spencer Fisher. And there is still a possibility of fitch being the champion

Time will tell, we'll see how GSP performs against Fitch, but there's always a possibility of a Serra-like upset ..

fitch is definitely the proven #2 welterweight until someone else proves otherwise. Alves did beat hughes and karo though, so he is right up there.

But that brings up another matter ....
When say a HW like Crocop, who is 220 ibs, fights someone like Gonzaga at over 250, that's a massive 30 ib difference.
So why is 4 ibs a big deal ?
HWs fight people with much bigger differences ...

Isn't there some kind of double standard ?
So when Fedor at 230 ibs fights Sylvia at 265 ( who has to cut to reach that weight), where is the "catch weight", we are talking over 30 ibs.
Why is it ok and fair to fight people much bigger than you at HW but at WW just 1 or 2 kilo difference and it's unfair ?
It's not like 4 ibs is going to make you a better fighter , from an honest perspective.
Sure, he didn't make weight, but that's not why he won.

because, once you get over 240 pounds there is a big size/speed ratio difference. Once you get to big you get very slow. And when a big person hits the mat is very hard for him to get up fast. You got to think yes couture can beat Sylvia which is a 30 pound difference at least, but no lightweight can even get out of the first round with a 30 pound heavier middleweight. Imagine Anderson Silva vs Huerta... it would be a massacre

Yeah, but 4 ibs isn't going to confer much in my opinion , these are both guys who diet down to reach that weight anyway, Alves should be fighting a weight class higher.

I think it's also that when a person reaches a certain weight, i think it's about 220 pounds or greater, they have enough weight behind their punches to knock out just about anyone, given that they have enough skills.
I know that's confusing, but take this for example: You ever notice that there are not that many knockouts at the lightweight division? A lot of lightweight fights go to decision and there are not a lot of KO's. It's because lightweights don't cause that much damage when they punch. The same is true at the middleweight division, although there more knockouts. And, if you go up to the heavyweight division, there are more knockouts there than any other division. Even though everyone fighting each other in each weight class are the same size, heavyweights hit harder, cause more damage, therefore there are more knockouts. I might be wrong, but that is just what I noticed.
But Sheikh, I see your point. Why is Anderson Silva the greatest p4p on all of the MMA websites, when Fedor beats fighters 130+ pounds bigger than him?

lolz, how do you explain all the KOs in bantamweight and featherweight boxing ?
That's not very accurate , I remember an interview where Forrest Griffin sparred with Jacare ( a middleweight) and said he hits extremely hard, harder than any heavyweight he's seen.

You could be right, I don't follow boxing that much. But, I just now looked up 3 of some of the top lightweight's records:
Sean Sherk: Not one KO, a lot of TKO's, submissions and decisions
BJ Penn: Only one KO, a lot of TKO's, submissions, and decisions
Urijah Faber (featherweight): Not one KO, a lot of TKO's, submissions, and decsions
Takanori: 3 KOs: But a shitload of decisions
