UFC 98 - Matt Hughes vs Matt Serra could finally happen

After what seems like an age of waiting, the bitter rivalry between former UFC welterweight champions, Matt Hughes and Matt Serra could finally be settled inside the octagon on May 23rd in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Long time champion and welterweight legend, Matt Hughes confirmed the news today on Matt-Hughes.com, saying:

“Just got a call from Joe Silva and as of right now it looks like I’ll be fighting Matt Serra in Vegas on May 23rd. This is not 100% confirmed, but I believe it is going to be on this date.”

The two have never liked each other and were pitted against each other on season six of “The Ultimate Fighter” as coaches. The pair were all set to meet when the show finished at the promotions 2007 year end show, UFC 79: Nemesis.

Serra was forced off the card due to a back injury just weeks before the fight and was replaced by now champion Georges St.Pierre. Since then Serra has recovered but Hughes has suffered his own injuries, badly hurting a knee in his UFC 85 loss to Thiago Alves.

Now the pair both seem fit and ready to go and fans could see the two men, who seemingly share a dislike of each other rarely seen in the UFC, hook it up on May 23rd at UFC 98.

Serra has no chance, Hughes will CRUSH him, Serra had a lucky fight against Pierre the first time, he won't be so lucky against Hughes.

Hughes, Hughes, Hughes. I may even put money down. I don't even like Matt Hughes but Serra got LUCKY and hasn't fought anyone except for GSP since leaving the show.

He was a paper champ anyways, he got the belt and sat on it, he basically said he'd probably retire after Hughes, he hasn't wanted to keep himself in the game AT ALL. He just wanted to be champ long enough to expand his gym. He knew he could never defend it.

Hughes is gonna rape him.

what's funny is how delusional Serra himself got after he beat GSP, he really thought he was that good, that second fight had to be so humiliating I kind felt bad for him while watching it, imagine GSP beating the living shit out of you whilst thousands of rabid, bloodthirsty canadian fans watch and SING, that must have been the most horrible night of Serra's life.
