Default “The Spider” to go back to 205 after Cote clash, fight with GSP also rumoured

mmabay

Never long out of the headlines, UFC middleweight champion, Anderson “The Spider” Silva, was in Chicago today to help promote his upcoming fight on October 25th against Canadian Patrick Cote. President, Dana White, had some interesting comments to make about “The Spider’s” future.

During the press conference this afternoon in “The Windy City”, White strongly suggested that a move back to the light heavyweight division would happen should he be successful in defending his 185 pound crown, adding fuel to the rumour of a December clash with Chuck Liddell.

Also mentioned was a possible fight down the road against UFC welterweight champion, George’s St. Pierre, at a catch weight (possibly 180 pounds) which would have fans reaching for their wallets.

These are certainly exciting times for the middleweight champion, who has publicly stated that he wishes to be involved in the biggest matches in the coming years. With what is rumoured, he’s making a good start.

By Michael Pepper.

It looks like Anderson will Irvinize, someone else soon.

He left Chute Boxe because of it's management and trainers. Chute boxe was known for paying more attention to their best fighters and less to lower-ranked ones. First Pele, then Wanderlei, then Shogun, they chose favorites.

Machida is his teammate RIGHT NOW, Wanderlei was his teammate years ago, they're probably not as close anymore.

but that would be a good thing for anderson. in his old pride fights the commentators would mention on how he is the best technical fighter in the chute boxe team.

Yes, but he was not the most well-rounded fighter, Shogun and Wanderlei had better defense against submissions and they finished fights sooner. Plus around that time Chute Boxe was best known for focusing on light-heavyweights and lightweights, not 170 or 185ers (at which Anderson fought).

its funny how much anderson has changed since leaving chute boxe. not only has his skills gotten way better but his personality and persona. while at chute boxe he had this cocky badass aura. now he just seems like a cool laid back respectful guy. good move spider

Chute boxe was known for it's wild and energetic fighters, not coolheaded and technical ones(like Anderson and Machida). If you look at Wanderlei's strikes now compared to his old fights, he's a lot more precise, while in his old PRIDE fights he seemed to just be swinging.

Im not gonna lie, Wanderlei was a gentleman when he was with PRIDE, but I think he also seemed like a bully and a total asshole at times. For instance when Rampage came with his challenge, Wanderlei was severily overreacting IMO, with the security having to carry him out of the ring.

I like Anderson at 205, he carries the weight well and there are much more opportunities for him at LHW.

I don't see the logic behind a fight with GSP at all. He is much too large to be fighting a WW reguardless of how good the WW is. He has nothing to gain and everything to lose. If he wins then all he did was defeat a much smaller opponent, if he loses he becomes a paper champion in a weak division. Also, it hurts the WW division. Either your champion loses and you now have a WW champ in limbo or your top WW contenders have to take a back seat while the champ is off catering to the ego of a fighter who has fuck all to do with the WW division. The only way this fight should happen is if GSP moves to MW permanently, cross divisonal fighting between champions is idiotic and damaging to everyone.

Anderson should finish Cote, Okami and then permanently move to 205, Dana can talk all he wants, but I don't see GSP and Anderson ever fighting.

GSP is a massive WW, at MW he would be around the same fight weight as the average MW. And it is a lot better match up for Anderson than anyone else in the MW division. Also GSP would be challenging Anderson for his title, so the WW division wouldn't be in any danger. Cross Division champions are fine as long as they have defended their title currently and are able to defend both titles if they win. Of course then since they won they would have to take on the burden of fighting more frequently, so only certain fighters have the capability to do it. Wouldn't you like to see if Anderson could hold both the MW and LHW and defend them both every few months?

Loiseau looks much bigger than GSP, Anderson is an average LHW, he would dwarf GSP.

yeah GSP would be way to small to hang with Anderson...

Although Rashad Evans has said that GSP tosses him around in training

Everyone who fights Anderson is smaller, why would it be a problem now? I mean, BJ plans on only weighing a natural 168 vs GSP, who weighs around 180-185 fight time. I know Anderson is going to be bigger, but GSP can easily make 185 at a natural weight. That being said I am sure Anderson would win.
