GSP Facts
After GSP's 5 round dominance of Alves despite having injured his elbow and groin the point was made that GSP Doesn't finish fights. This is a trend that has shown since training at Greg Jackson and taking a more strategic approach as well as since his loss from Matt Serra I explore this:
GSP Has 2 losses, which he has avenged, 1X to Serra, and 2X to Hughes
Of GSP's 19 wins 5 are by submission a 26% percentage
of GSP's 19 wins 8 are by KO 42%
GSP finishes 68% of his fights.
Where does this rank him among his peers?
Among Welterweights:
Matt Hughes: 31/43 finishes 72%, 13/42 KO (31%), 18/43 Subs (42%)
Jon Fitch: Finishes 9/23 39%, KO 4/23 (17%), Subs (22%)
Thiago Alves: Finishes 11/16 (68.75%) 10/16 (62.5%) KO, 1/16 Sub 6%
Koscheck: Finishes 7/12 (58%), KO 3/12 (25%), Sub 4/12 (33%)
As we See GSP Is a better finisher at 170 then Fitch or Koscheck and equal to Alves. Hughes having fought more fights at lower levels of competition still only stays slightly ahead of GSP for finishing 72% to 68%
Others
Anderson Silva 18 of 24 75%
Couture 9 of 16 56%
BJ Penn 10 of 13 for 77%
Hendo 12 of 25 48%
Rampage 21 of 30 70%
Lyoto Machida 7 of 15 47%
Fedor 23 of 30 77%
Nog 22 of 31 71%
GSP's finishing rate of 68% is pretty good for a welterweight, higher weight class fighters have more power and you see in general more KO's still GSP's finishing rate is higher then that of Machida, Couture, Hendo and close to Nog's.

No doubt, agreed, but it's an incredibly impressive stat when you consider he's fought one of the most decorated mma athletes and the current at the time UFC champion Coture, and unified the titles with the current at the time UFC interim champion.
He's not fighting washed up ex champs, he's fighting current title holders who earned their titles (even if Mir's was interim, through no fault of his own).

lol what? He beat Herring by decision, so that would fall somewhere in the nineties.

Wow, mathematics fail.
I find it interesting how he didn't finish Herring though...Heath is a tough mofo, seeing what those punches can do.

3 of 4 is 75%
1/4 is a quater, 25 %
4 x 25 = 100
So therefore, 3/4 = 75%
