This is also the reason Dana is so cautious to make a move in Japan, they operate differently there (read the book, "inside corporate Japan" and you'll get an idea of HOW much)

Affliction was not a big FIGHTING brand in the US

It was built off of a clothing company and even with billions (they only had millions), you can't become a big brand overnight

People need to believe your hype, believe in your fighters, slowly you need to get a following

Affliction was doomed from the start
Pride failed because of Yakuza links and corruption, but for a long time it was still a big name in mma.

And Dana has said that the Yakuza made life in Japan too hard to get UFC kickstarted there, or to get a new Pride up and running.

You make a good point, but it's been proven that even with a big brand, Fedor could not draw a dime in the US.

Plus, those fights were before TUF, weren't they? I could be wrong but if they are, UFC didn't explode , and Chuck and Randy weren't draws, untill the show drew attention to them, so if they were before TUF, he wasn't a huge draw at the time anyway.
He was a star in the US, he wasn't making the same numbers as he does now, but his numbers plummeted in comparison to when he first joined up with the UFC

It was before TUF, but the UFC was still building a following

That's what I was saying

You make good points, and to an extent you are right, but he was saying Fedor is a big star when he's really not to the wider audience.

Could he big with UFC? Probably, yeah, but that's why he needs them more than UFC needs him.

I wasn't talking about why PRIDE failed as a promotion, I was talking about how PRIDE failed to make a dent in the US MMA world

Dana said that the Yakuza made it impossible to restart PRIDE in Japan, he wasn't talking about the UFC

From what I read, his comments were more about expanding into Japan in general, but you are probably right.

Again too, you are right about the UFC's marketing muscle, but my point was to counter this idiot who thinks Fedor is well known to a large audience.

I agree with you on that

Because after Affliction tanks (which i've been saying for a year now), Fedor's gonna need to get his checks elsewhere

That elsewhere being the UFC

really? Go watch Badr Hari vs Stephan Leko. If u know how to defend yourself from a kick like that then maybe I'd just choke u until the cops come...... but u wouldn't so I'd take ur head clean off.

maybe severly break both of ur arms with various armlocks then laugh as u try to run away but keep getting tripped and kicked in the face until U DIE!!!!!!

Well, that's the funny thing

If the UFC made a show in Japan one of these days, I guarantee you Fedor would be a big draw there

But yes, in the US, he's not a draw

He is not a big star to the mainstream audience, you god damned moron.

He's a draw in Japan, and that's IT.
