Default So low-carb is "in" again

Science News / Against The Grains

Carbohydrates have taken another hit. A new study finds that a low-carb diet results in greater weight loss and better cholesterol readings than a low-fat regimen that promotes a lot of grains and fruits. A Mediterranean diet that incorporates some of each diet yielded results that fell between the two, researchers in Israel report in the July 17 New England Journal of Medicine.

Nonsense, complex carbs should be part of any balanced healthy diet.

who knows what to believe anymore. It seems there is a new study coming out every month that contradicts the last and it just keeps going on back and forth ad infinitum.

True. But you can't reinvent the wheel, there are no shortcuts to weightloss/health.

A balanced diet is the way forward. With complex carbs, lean protein and good fats.

No amount of studies and what nots change that.

GSP is known to go on a low-carb diet, one week before his fight.

That's during extreme weight cutting.

It is, but I have also heard of models and such who cut out carbs to lose weight.

It's only temporary weight loss though. As soon as you get back on the carbs you gain the weight again. It is handy for models and athletes if they need to cut some weight in a hurry granted. But it is not healthy long term.

the first 35 lbs I cut. I did the low carb. But I always felt like total shit. So I went to a balanced diet like all of us have been discussing over the past few days. I then dropped another 35lbs.

I never gained anything back, because I was smart not to just over eat like most people do after they go off of it.

I am totally against the low carb..Your brain just doesn't work properly when you do it!

I've heard that before too. Is it the carbs it needs in general, or specifically sugars(like from fruits)? Could you explain that to me?

if you're working out, you need carbs. i did the atkins bullshit and it was just like jarwillie said.

and all those models on low carb have smelly breath and they look like the living death!

all of these weird diets make me laugh. just work out a lot and don't overdo it with any kind of foods. just be sensible and stay active.

the dieting industry thrives on all of these wacky diets and "new findings." it's all bullshit so they can make you feel out of control so you can buy their solution. its not rocket science like the diet brands tell you it is.
