that's what i was concerned about, but the thing is i sweat A LOT when i work out and i drink a ton of water. my sweat tastes like water. for the past week or so, i've been jonzing for salt so i ate about 4 large jars of dill pickles over the past week. i feel better now

by the way broken, your girl is very pretty and sweet looking. you seem like you work hard in your career and fitness goals, so you deserve all the best bro.

with regard to Niven's concern about putting on lean mass, i think the biggest impediment is the cardio training/bjj. an hour a day of jits or cardio is going to inhibit the recovery and make it difficult to make gains. that's what i think anyway. to gain a pound of muscle a week, i think you need to do really intense strength movements that require a lot of weight like squats, bent over rows, deadlifts in order to stress your body into releasing the growth hormones. maybe it is possible, though, to gain and do cardio--diego sanchez seems to have packed on some muscle...how did he do it? anyone know?

A lb a week isn't too bad -- its simple really:

1 pound = 3500 calories. Add an additional 500 calories per day to your existing caloric needs and you get a pound a week. Thing is, unless you are lifting hard thats going to be fat -- like you said, heavy training.

The diet is the hard part to gaining weight correctly.

broken you must be young thats a shitload of animal you are eating id def get fat on that diet, i keep it mostly beans and rice, stir fry veggies, mushrooms humus, meat once or twice a week and yeah i cheat with either taco bell, cookies or the ultimate sin beef jerky and mountain dew

Hah, I always do that too. If me and some other people weigh ourselves, I always tell them who they'd have to fight, and how badly they'd be beaten.
