Tapping Due To Strikes

Watching Sapp tap due to strikes was kind of not surprising since I have seen him do it before (can't remember the fight).

Then I was thinking the only other fight I could remember off hand where a fighter has tapped due to strikes was GSP v. Serra 1.

What do you think goes through a fighters mind when he is tapping due to strikes? Why tap when you can give up your back or stop defending yourself so the fight is stopped?

Realization that you perhaps cannot get up in the situation or that you are too hurt to continue?

I saw one guy tap to strikes but it was warranted. Cote's TKO MW title fight he pinned Jason Day against the cage
had control of one arm with an overhook. Knelt on the other and just kept punching day in the face with his free hand.

Day tried for about 15-20 seconds to get out realized he couldn't and verbally tapped.

What is pathetic is when fighters say they didn't tap. Forrest was beating the canvass like a bongo drum and then said he didn't. Gay.

I think it is hypocritical for any keyboard warrior to criticize any fighter for tapping. Calling a fighter a "pussy" because he doesn't have the balls to get some brain damage is fucking ignorant.

To me tapping to strikes and tapping to submissions isn't really that different -- if you are in a situation where your only option is a limb snapping or having your switch turned off, why not tap?

What makes tapping from strikes any different than tapping from an RNC or an armbar? Are fighters pussies because they didn't let their arm break or pass out?

Just a thought.

People have tapped to strikes on many occasions, try watching MMA for more than two years. They do it so they don't die and/or take an unnecessary injury when they know they can't get to a better position.

Tapping to strikes is very different to tapping to a painful joint manipulation. Firstly when you are having a joint manipulated the knee jerk reaction is to tap because it hurts like shit, or in the case of a choke, you are blacking out.

When you tap to strikes you are making a conscience decision to bail out which can be perceived by some as a cowardly. You're not tapping because your arm is about to be snapped, but because you don't want to be punched any more.

That is pathetic, I don't think Forrest tapped though...honestly. He was out and his body was basically limpasCamelhound. I can accept that he was flailing. He said he got whooped.

I don't see a difference really. I do think some guys tap in situations and they end up looking like bitches. Faber vs. ???? (can't remember) ???? is on his back with Faber standing and controlling his legs, Faber drops down and lands one punch and the guy tapped. HE kind of looked like a bitch.
