Back to the original question, yes Bob Sapp taps to strikes and cries. The reason fighters tap to strikes is one of the following:

Intelligence
cowardice
or no self respect.

Not sure which.

It's intelligence in most cases I think. Brian Gassaway is stuck with Diego Sanchez raining down blows from mount and he taps=intelligence. The situation I posted earlier with Faber vs. ???? is bit of a bitch move I think.

When Yvel tapped to Barnett I can see that as an intelligent move, he was an a position that he couldn't get out of and was just taking punches he could well do without taking.
Same with Igor/coleman (i think Igor tapped to a chin in eye earlier in his career too). Sometimes its how a fighter taps though, Sapp has desperately tapped on a few occasions which has made him look like a giant bitch.

If your going to call tapping to strikes a bitch move I'm going to call Dan hardy a bitch for tapping out to a triangle choke from david baron it's only fair.

I disagree with your first statement, surely having the blood cut off to your brain is more dangerous than being punched in the face.

Don't get me wrong, I would tap furiously if Bobby Lashely was punching me full in the face. But all that aside, Bob Sapp does it too often not to be a bitch.

prolonged lack of blood to the brain will in fact kill you but for the length of time that it takes referees (most anyway) to realize you are unconscious I'd have to agree with thesimpleone

I already told you guys, BJ penn wasnt right in the head. He didnt know where he was. Do you know how many times that 20 pound heavier, monster in his own right GSP banged BJ's skull? Especially from the top position, putting all his weight behind those punches.

BJ didnt quit, he just didnt know what was going on, so his corner stopped it. BJ went past his limit, he went "To the death" literally.

How are we supposed to judge where a fighter is mentally? If you believe in that argument how are to make judgements on fighters that tap from strikes? What if they weren't right in the head?

IMHO, none of us are in a position to judge any of these guys at this level.
